In recent time, it has become the sore of our nation in our efforts to genuinely fight corruption. The EFCC as an institution is more important at this stage of our national development, so that, we cannot afford to leave it in the hands of mediocres whose vision and integrity runs at variance with the ACT that established it. Nothing is wrong with the principles of an anti-corruption platform or positive agent but it becomes worrisome and a setback when the leadership of such an important organ have degenerated below the average level of public acceptance.
The present players in the EFCC have outlived their usefulness as they continue to constitute nuisance to the agency and genuine process of transparency and corruption struggle in Nigeria. For the umpteenth time, the UAD reiterates the fact that Farida Waziri lacks the credibility, commitment and vision to manage a vital institution like the EFCC.
Femi Babafemi's recent outrage against the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) is rather panicky, diabolical and coming from a confused and compromised mediocre seeking relevance to hang on to a job he could not deliver. There is a great vacuum between knowledge and wisdom, Babafemi has exposed his ignorance of not been able to differentiate credible individuals and organizations like the CDHR from so called activists who are on the regular pay roll of the EFCC. If Babafemi want us to believe him, he must make public disclosure of who gave the leadership of the CDHR the money he claimed. The UAD had long ago placed Farida Waziri and her moribund EFCC in a dustbin where they rightly belong. It has become a mere bulldog on a page of paper.
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu before his removal did informed the public that investigation on thirty one ex state governors were completed and ready for prosecution; our question is whether Waziri never took over suck case files?
The ANCHOR programme of the agency in galvanizing civil society organization to drive anti-corruption crusade is a smoke screen aimed at trivializing and regulating sincere criticisms against the body. So much money have been spent on this with very little achievements.
If wishes were horses beggars would ride, were it not for collective efforts of the media, genuine anti- corruption agents and the mass of our people; the likes of Farida Waziri and Femi Babafemi would hang white albattross round their necks as a mark of celebrated and subjugated victory over noting. The UAD expects the EFCC rather than public show of dramatized shame to deceive people that it is doing her job- arrest, investigate and prosecute suspected corrupt individuals no matter how highly placed according to law.
We cal on the leadership of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) to begin a process of litigation against Babafemi and the EFCC to expose faces of liars and irresponsible scavengers who manage our public institutions.
Comrade Taiwo Otitolaye
National Convener
