As the crisis rocking the Ondo State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) continues to rage, a cross section of party faithful in the state has that said the only way to resolve the lingering impasse in the party is to jettison self-centeredness and follow in the footsteps of business mogul and national leader of the party, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim OFR. The call is coming on the heels of the poor performance of the party in the last elections in the state.
Governorship election is likely to take place in the state late next year and it is expected to be a tough contest between the PDP and the LP. Hence the need for Africa’s largest political party to come together in the state. Party leaders in the state, who spoke with Saturday Mirror, expressed their worry over the prolonged crisis in the party, saying that the reconciliatory efforts of Ibrahim must be emulated by all feuding parties so that the PDP in the state could reclaim its lost glory. A party leader who craved anonymity challenged Ondo PDP leaders to sheathe their swords so that the family would be together again as it was before.
His words: “Our leaders should resolve their differences in the interest of the party. They should emulate Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim who has been making efforts to revive the party in the state since last year when he joined us.” Another party leader told Saturday Mirror that Barrister Ibrahim has committed his hard earned resources to the growth of the party both at the national and state levels, and encouraged party faithful to support the peace moves of the Igbotako-born business mogul. The leader says, “Apart from purchasing 20 brand new buses for the party in Ondo, Barrister Ibrahim has also spent over N50million on rallies across the state. I strongly believe that Barrister Ibrahim’s philanthropic gestures should be supported by all by embracing peace and working together for the growth of the party in the state. Barrister Ibrahim also gave our candidates substantial amount of money. So, the leaders should allow peace and unity. That is the only road to the redemption of the party in the state.”
