Pharmaceutical Society to partner with traders against fake drugs

The Abia Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has said that it will partner with traders in Aba to curtail the incidence of fake and expired medicines in the state.
Mr Emeka Ogbonna, the State Chairman of PSN, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Aba that the partnership became necessary to weed out fake and counterfeit drugs especially in Aba markets.
``The task of weeding out fake and counterfeit drugs from the markets of Aba is an onerous one and requires collaborative efforts,'' he said.
According to him,  PSN is collaborating with the traders under the aegis of Traders Solidarity Movement of Nigeria for Good Governance (TSMNGG) in the war against fake drugs.
The National Coordinator of TSMNGG, Mr Osondu Eze, said that fake drugs had caused many deaths in the country and blamed the trend on the quest by some Nigerians to get rich quick.
``One cannot understand why a human being will choose to endanger the lives of his fellow human beings by selling fake products to them.
``The fight should be made holistic by tracing the manufacturers of these products. If the chain is not upset, the battle will linger," he noted.
He, however, advised Nigerians to be careful of the products they consume. (NAN)
