CMD calls on govt. to enlighten people on blood donation

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Maiduguri Specialist Hospital, Dr Abubakar Alhassan, on Tuesday called on Borno government to educate people on the need  to donate blood to needy  patients
Alhassan , who made the call when Gov. Kashim Shettima paid a Sallah visit to the patients  at the medical centre, said that most of the patients admitted in the hospital were suffering from  insufficient  blood.
“It is very unfortunate that when it comes to issue of looking for people to donate blood to patients in the hospital, they will all disappear as nobody is ready to do that.
“Government should assist in educating and enlightening the people about blood donation to save the lives of the patients,'' he added.
The CMD, while conducting the governor round the hospital wards, noted that most of the children admitted were infected with malaria and  whooping cough and urged parents to always bring their wards  for immunisation against the deadly diseases.
Responding , the governor assured the hospital management that his administration would soon embark on enlightenment campaign across the state on the need to donate blood to patients.
He directed the medical officials to educate the patients to always feed on balanced diet, pointing out that some of the patients were illiterates and could not differentiate between the right diet. (NAN)
