Gen. Oshinowo commends Plateau Journalists over peaceful Sallah

Maj .Gen. Oluwaseun Oshinowo, Commander, military Special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in Plateau, has commended journalists for their contribution to the peaceful celebration of the Eid-el Kabir in the state.
Oshinowo gave the commendation on Monday night in Jos at a dinner he organised for members of the Plateau Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to mark the Eid celebration.
He said that the dinner was in appreciation of the cooperation journalists had been giving the STF and other security agencies in their reportage of security situation since his assumption of office in September.
The commander commended the journalists for reporting the truth over Jos conflict and for ensuring that they reported all sides in a  responsible manner.
``I have seen your efforts in trying to corroborate stories from the STF, other security agencies and all stakeholders in the State; thank you for reporting the truth.
``Please continue to report the truth about what is going on in Jos. This is important because an average Nigerian believes what he or she reads or hears in the media,” he said.
The military officer particularly commended the report on the Eid-el Kabir celebration, saying that it was void of sensationalism and commended the media personnel for being responsible.
Oshinowo said that he was at the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to celebrate the Eid with journalists as they were on essential duty and did not enjoy the Sallah holiday.
Responding, the NUJ Chairman, Mr Katdapba Gobum, remarked that it was the first time any STF Commander was coming to the Press Centre, and that the centre was not much different from the officers’ mess except that it was civil.
Gobum assured the Commander that journalists in the state were doing their best to contribute to the enthronement of lasting peace in Jos and Plateau state in general.
``Gen Oshinowo has assured us that STF activities will not be shrouded in secrecy; he has been open and cooperating with the journalists to ensure the truth is known and told,” the chairman said. (NAN)
