Ekiti Development: Fayemi canvasses collaborative efforts

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has called for collaborative efforts by stakeholders and the state government to actualise the development of the state.
The Governor who made the call in Lagos at the weekend shortly after his investiture as Grand Patron of the Lagos Sate chapter of Ekiti Parapo, a socio-cultural group made up of Ekiti indigenes, said he alone does not have all the answers to the problems of the state, hence his campaign slogan "Collective Rescue Mission".
Governor Fayemi also expressed his readiness to tap from the expertise of Ekiti people, regardless of their locations. The governor added that he had attended a similar meeting with the United Kingdom and New York chapters of Ekiti Parapo on ways to move the Ekiti State forward.
While noting that the administration is faced with the challenge of transforming the state with the meagre resources that accrue to the state, Fayemi assured that he would continue to create an enabling environment for Ekiti indigenes to contribute their quota to the development of the state, stressing that performance is the only way to justify the electoral legitimacy given him by the people.
"Let me admit that we are at a crossroad. At no time had any government been saddled with the challenge of expectation such as we have been saddled in this administration", he said.
The Governor who stressed the need to create alternative sources of revenue for the state, said his administration was set to diversify the economy of the state by focusing on tourism, agriculture and industrialisation to boost the Internally Generated revenue of the state. He added  that government had begun blocking loopholes in the revenue generation which has resulted in an 200 per cent increase in the revenue base.
Fayemi expressed optimism that by the second year of his administration, the IGR base of the state would have hit between 500 million and 1 billion Naira when targeted sectors begin to yield effectively, saying government would use biometrics to monitor the state revenue.
On security, Governor Fayemi said his government  is set to  procured additional Armoured Personnel Vehicle in addition to the Crime Prevention Alert System, bullet proof vests and patrol vans  for security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property of investors, asserting that development can only thrive where there is security.
The Governor said his party, the Action Congress of  Nigeria  (ACN) was "not apologetic" about delivering dividends of democracy to the masses and assured that his government would repair Ado/Ikere, Igbara Odo - Ikere, llawe- Igbara Odo and Ado-Ijan -Iluomoba roads among others, while Local Council Development  would be created to bring government closer to the grassroots.
Earlier,  the Chairman of the occasion, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi had said Ekiti State is lucky to have Fayemi as governor, saying that his wealth of experience and international reputation would go a long way in assisting the state.

Prince Adeluyi who affirmed that government alone cannot bring about the desired development, called for team work from all Ekiti indigenes at home and in the Diaspora to support the Fayemi- led administration to develop the state.
He however advised the Governor to look for competent Ekiti indigenes regardless of political affiliation to run the state with him, saying that this would enhance the "collective collaborative strategy".
In his remarks, the President of Ekiti Parapo, Lagos chapter, Chief Kola Akomolede, promised that the group would always support and give constructive criticism to ensure the success of the administration.
"On our part at Ekiti Parapo Lagos, we shall give you all the necessary support within our resources to see you succeed. However we shall not be shy to chide you or criticise you if you do something that we think is not in the best interest of Ekiti people", he said.Chief Akomolede disclosed that a cassava processing factory was being established at Ikole by the group as part of measures to curb unemployment in the state and revealed that two multinational companies have shown interest in the products of the yet to be completed factory.
