S-West PDP protests alleged marginalization

BY OLA AJAYI
PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP, in the South West has lamented the lopsidedness of the distribution of political positions, asking President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on the national leadership of the party to concede the national chairmanship of the party to the zone.
Chieftains of the party from Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun and Lagos states said leaving the chairmanship seat of the party for the South West was the only way the alleged marginalization could be addressed.
The party chieftains under the aegis of the South West Advocacy Group in Ibadan yesterday, said it was sad considering the contributions of the zone to the emergence of the president and other representatives of the party, to be treated like that.
The group’s Co-ordinator, Mr. Bayo Akinloye, the Secretary, Mrs.  Dolapo Abiola and Director of Publicity, Mr. Niyi Ojo said, ‘’We note with sadness the deliberate marginalization of the South-West geo political zone in the distribution of major political offices in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial arms of Government in the present dispensation.
We wish to point out that this apparent marginalization of the South-West is inimical to the spirit of the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party as well as the Nigerian constitution which makes the explicit provisions for equitable representation of all zones in the various organs of government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
’’We call the attention of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan being the leader of the PDP and President of the Federation to this anomaly. He should rise up to the challenge by prevailing on the party to concede the National Chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party being the only available major office to the South-West Geo- Political zone.”
