Agric Perm. Sec. inaugurates new SERVICOM Board, charges on staff ethical behaviour

In bid to stem issues of incompetence and hindrances in service delivery, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development has re-inaugurated its Ministerial SERVICOM Unit with a call on officials to always checkmate disorderly behaviour of staff.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ezekiel Oyemomi made the charge while instituting the Ministry‘s SERVICOM Unit in his Office recently. He observed that eight years into the introduction of SERVICOM by the Federal Government, not much has been achieved due to lack of expenditure retirement as well as delay and poor handling of mails by public officers.
Ezekiel Oyemomi stressed that for the current Agricultural Transformation Agenda to be effective, staff of the ministry need from time to time, to be reminded of their responsibilities. ‘This, he said, will enable every worker execute expected duties in every place by rendering quality services to the Nigerian populace.
Agric Minister noted that since Nigerian President and Ministers have been engaged in a service compact with Nigerians, there was no reason for civil servants under the employ of the Government of the Federation not to take their jobs seriously and report or close from work between the official hours of 8. 00 am and 4.00 pm on all working days.
He informed SERVICOM Officials that the Minister, the Permanent Secretary and Directors in the Ministry were committed to the agreed annual targets accepted as performance objectives with the Federal Government.
Oyemomi further revealed that the targets would undergo review in less than a year from now and subsequently be done bi-annually, to enable assessment of the Ministry’s performance, adding the performance agreement provides a measurable basis for the evaluation of all Staff.
He requested that the SERVICOM Unit should work closely with the Ministry’s top management, so as to pull together the Ministry’s major performance indicators by liaising with the Departments of Planning, Research & Statistics and the Human Resources Department to monitor progress on KPIs and ensure conducive environments for Staff efficiency.
The Permanent Secretary called on the new SERVICOM officials to be steadfast in ensuring that adequate and better service delivery is maintained by all units and the departments. He added that effort is being made to strengthen SERVICOM operations in all agencies under the Ministry, imploring staff to co-operate and work with them for attainment of a common goal.
In his message at the occasion, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Obriki Sylbriks who is the National Co-ordinator of SERVICOM represented by the SERVICOM Team Leader, E. E. Amanam opined that governments at all levels have recognised that service transformation and citizen – centered service delivery is necessary in attaining desired public service outcomes.
Amanam commended the present leadership of the ministry for the success recorded and assured the support and co-operation of the management of the SERVICOM Office towards maintaining a disciplined and service – oriented Nigeria at all times and places.
Speaking earlier, the Acting Director in the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Stephen Okon stated that the re-inauguration of the Ministry’s SERVICOM Unit became very pertinent due to the deployment of key SERVICOM officials to manage the Unit. He said the need to re – invigorate it is for better service delivery which is in line with the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda.
Stephen Okon expressed appreciation to the Permanent Secretary and the SERVICOM Officials for working hard towards ensuring that the Ministry’s SERVICOM Unit was resuscitated for the good of all Nigerians and the public service.
Speaking on behalf of the inaugurated Ministerial SERVICOM Unit, the Acting Nodal Officer, Umezurike Onyekaozuru assured that they would justify the confidence bestowed on them by discharging their prescribed duties without fear or favour. Members of the unit who were inaugurated include: the Service Improvement Officer, Ibrahim Monday; Charter Desk Officer, Hannatu Musa and the Servicom Complaint Desk Officer, E.O. Idowu.
