Akeredolu Accuses Mimiko of Importing Arms And Ammunition To Rig Governorship Election

The Akeredolu Campaign Organisation (ACO) has raised an alarm over alleged plot by the Labour Party (LP) to rig the forthcoming governorship elections in the State, importing arms and ammunition into the State Capital, Akure. 

In a press release issued by the Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the Campaign Organisation, Idowu Ajanaku, a copy of which was made available to PLATFORM NEWSWIRE, the ruling Labour Party was accused of  importing ammunition, comprising of over 100 AK 47 rifles, Matchets, Shortguns and other dangerous weapons.

“This is coming on the heels of threat letters to some Obas/Baales by Hon. Henry Akinsuroju of Ondo State House of Assembly that they would be dethroned if they allow their subjects to vote for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). This is crude, wicked and undemocratic. The constitution of Nigeria guarantees Nigerians and the people of Ondo State to freely vote for party and the candidate of their choice. And if they decided to vote ACN so be it,” the press statement said.

The Aketi organisation also confirmed that the Mimiko administration has started the training of thugs at different locations across the State. These, according to the statement, are the people he relies heavily to foment trouble in order to create chaos during the October 20, governorship elections.

“Besides, plans are on top gear to bring a large number of mercenaries from Igbira land his ancestral root to come and complement the thugs that are already undergoing training in the State. Against this background, we call on the Security agents to investigate this and quickly arrest this situation in order to avoid chaos in the state; The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) will not fold its hands while the members are subject to attacks. We are a peace loving political party as we dwelt more on ideas rather than using violence as a tool for political gain,” the statement added.

According to the Akeredolu Campaign Organisation, “ACN has won elections in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and the latest being Edo State in which PDP including this Labour Party could not get 25% of the total vote cast. And that feat would be repeated in Ondo State.”
