Embrace peace for attainments in harmony and social development – Maku

The Minster of Information, Labaran Maku has described peace as a veritable instrument for national unity and development, saying mutual respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality, mutual benefit, peaceful co-existence, religious harmony and brotherly love are the hallmarks for peaceful co-existence.
The Minister made the remark in a keynote address at the third session of a national peace summit organised by the Inter-religious Peace Advocacy Initiative recently at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja.
Labaran Maku who was represented at the occasion by his Special Assistant for Special Duties, Henry Angulu observed that no society can really attain its social, political and economic heights without imbibing the ingredients of peace, harmony and social development.
He called on the group to embark on a massive public enlightenment campaign on peace among people of different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds using activities around them as well as government programmes and policies, adding that the Ministry is willing to give publicity support to the group.
While speaking on the theme of the summit which was ‘Peaceful Co-existence, a Must for Nigeria’, the Co-ordinator of the Islamic Family Foundation, Ustaz Musa Daud called on Nigerians to overlook any human faults meted to them  with gracious sense of forgiveness and mercy, noting  that it is the mandate given to Prophet Mohammed and to humanity at large.
