NDDC awards N284.8m water contracts in five Delta's communities

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has awarded N284.8 million contracts for two water projects in five communities in Delta.
One of the projects worth N240 million is located at Otulu in Aniocha North Local Government Area from where water would be supplied to Ubulu-Okiti, Issele-Uku, Onitsha-Ugbo and envions.
The other, according to Commissioner representing Delta on NDDC board, Mr Emmanuel Ogidi, is sited at Illah, Oshimili North Local Government Area and was awarded at the cost of N44.8 million.
Ogidi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba, on Tuesday that work on both projects would commence immediately, adding that they were expected to be completed before the middle of 2012.
He said that work would soon commence on the N189 million access road projects at Illah and for which contract was awarded to Pelco International.
``We have also awarded contract for the construction of internal roads in Nsukwa, in Aniocha South Local Government Area valued at N167 million. ’’
The commission had taken over the abandoned Utor Bridge project in the Asaba-Ebu-Illusin-Uromi road project and the bridge had been included in the commission’s 2011 budget, he said.
The road was awarded to Inter-Bau Construction in November, 2006, at a cost of N2.9 billion by the Federal Ministry of Works but the company abandoned the job in 2009 after which the project was transferred to Delta government for completion.
Earlier at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Chike Edozien, Ogidi announced that NDDC had concluded plans to embark on 6.5 kilometres township roads project in Asaba.
In his response, the monarch commended NDDC for the projects it had undertaken in the area and said that not much was being done by the interventionist agencies in Delta North senatorial district.
