2012 Gubernatorial Election- We'll Dislodge Mimiko-ACN

AS THE November 2012 gubernatorial election in Ondo state gathers momentum, the Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN) has intensified efforts in dislodging the Labour Party government of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
An ACN chieftain, who prefers anonymity, told PLATFORM in Ibadan, after the victory of the party at the recently concluded gubernatorial and houses of assembly elections in which the party won in all the states in the southwest, that ACN would win the 2012 governorship election in Ondo state.
According to the chieftain, Part of the strategies the ACN intends to use is to embark on house to house sensitisation in the 18 local government areas of the state by drawing the attention of the people to the impressive performances of the governors, Senators, House of Representative members as well as council chairmen, elected under the banner of the party across Nigeria.
This will then be followed by a mega rally in Akure, before the end of 2011. The mega rally, according to him, would be witnessed by about 2 million members of ACN from across the country.
“I can tell you that ACN is forming the next government in Ondo state. We are going to embark on sensitisation and more membership drive in all nook and crannies of Ondo state and I am sure that, by the time we finish welcoming new members, the labour party government would begin to park its loads,” the ACN leader stated.
PLATFORM findings also indicated that no fewer that 25 aspirants have shown interest in contesting in the 2012 gubernatorial election in the sunshine state from across its three senatorial districts.
The ACN leadership is however said to be keeping the names of its governorship aspirants in Ondo state, close to its chest for strategic reasons, and also not to expose its plans to the ruling Labour party government.
This paper also observed that some big names from Ondo north and south senatorial districts have been penciled down for the gubernatorial race by the ACN leadership in the state and at the national level.
According to our source, “the team ACN intends to use for the 2012 election would be formidable enough to the extent that it would give Governor Olusegun Mimiko a sleepless night.”
Officials of the Ondo state government could not be reached for their comments on the issue at the time of going to press.
