Ondo Kingdom Plans N1billion Industrial Estate

APPARENTLY in an effort at translating the Ondo vision 2015 plan of action geared towards accelerating the development of Ondo town into action, an industrial estate estimated to cost the sum of N1billion is being proposed for the community.
The industrial estate which will be undertaken through communal  effort  is expected   to have 50 industrial establishments  when completed, It   was part of the vision 2015 initiative  that was disclosed  by the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo in the ancient town last year during  the celebration of 500 years of Osemawe dynasty.
This information was disclosed recently,  in Ondo town by a member of the Ondo Development Committee ( ODC), Prof. ( Chief) Adeyemi Aderoba while addressing participants    during  the hosting of a career  talk / workshop on Engineering technology, agricultural production and Artisanal trades  organized  by the youth and Culture Sub-committee on behalf of the ODC  for youths organizations  in the community.
Chief Aderoba, a former university dons who is also the treasurer of the socio/ cultural organization explained that the plan to actualize the Ondo vision 2015 as regard the establishment of the industrial estate became imperative in order to address the problem of unemployment in the community.
While  lamenting  what he described as the lackadaisical attitude of some youths towards self employment  and job creation  which he said could be achieved through engagement in skill acquisition, the former Professor of Production Engineering Federal University of Technology, Akure ( FUTA) stressed the need for unemployed youths to take adequate advantages of the various effort being made  by the government and the ODC to get themselves employed  in order to free themselves from the shackles of poverty.
As ways of assisting the youths in order to enable them make effective use of their potential, Chief Aderoba urged the government at all levels to pay more attention to the development of technical education. He also enjoined education institutions in the community particularly Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo to review its curricula by including technical and agricultural education among the list of its courses.
Similarly, a lecturer in the College of Agricultural Science, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji- Arakeji, Dr. Kola Odunlami while addressing the participants highlighted the various job opportunities available in Agriculture.
He noted that Agriculture apart from providing food and raw materials for industries could provide opportunities for youths to make meaningful contribution to national development. He however stressed the need for anyone wishing to invest in agriculture to develop self interest, good citizenship skills and constantly seek for information on modern techniques in order to achieve favourable result.
In his paper on Artisanal trades, the Vice-Principal of Don Bosco Technical Training Institute, Ondo, Mr. Abebe Patrick  stressed  the need for youths to shun  the craze  for white collar jobs but rather show more interest towards technical oriented professions  which he said could guarantee them bright future and make employers of labour.
He also appealed to the government to allocate more funding to the development of vocational and Technical education noting that such a move would help to make technical education more attractive and would further lead to the technological development of the country.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Youth and Culture Sub-committee of the ODC, Otunba Chief Noah Fadayomi enjoined the participants to make judicious use of the career talk noting that the resource persons who were selected for the exercise were seasoned professional who have make their mark in their chosen field.
He assured the youths of the readiness of the ODC to assist them in meeting some of their challenges within the financial capacity of the association. He however urged them to exhibit high degree of creativity irrespective of their educational qualification so as to become self reliant in future.
The programme held at the committee room of the Oba Adesanoye Civic centre was attended  by representatives of 25 youth organizations from the community,  some members of the Youth / Culture sub-committee of the ODC , community leaders, captains of industries among whom are Mr. John Bankole Akindutire, Alhaji Yemi Adewetan, Mr, Kayode Akinnagbe, Executive Secretary, ODC to mention a few.
