Speech by Osun State Governor at the inauguration of Urban Renewal Project Committee on Tuesday June 7, 2011 at the Governor’s Office, Bola Ige House, Osogbo.

All Medical students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LTH) have decided to remain in Osogbo as the accredited venue of their examination and training.
This followed a meeting they held inside the pathology Seminar Room of LTH, Osogbo, Osun State on May 30, 2011 where they took the decision to declare the lecture free period.
In a communiqué issued and signed by Oloyede Oyejide, Taofeek Adetoro and Zacheus Oyewumi on behalf of their colleagues, the medical students also declared May 31 to June 10 as lecture free days to enable them hold useful joint discussion with the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on how to resolve the lingering ownership crisis facing their school.
The students who commended the Governor Rauf Aregbesola on the emergence of Senator Ajimobi who they described as his soul mate lauded the principled stand he took upon taking over as the Osun state Governor last year.
The students expressed the hope that with the installation of the two governors who they referred to as “two wise men”, the crisis rocking LAUTECH was over.
The communiqué stated further that “we believe the installation of these two wise men of these sister states will bring back the healthy co-habitation that used to exist between indigenes of both states but which was tampered with by the immediate past administration in both states especially as it concerns our great citadel of learning, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso”.
The students also saluted the redemptive role played by Aregbesola even though, he came at a time when the disengagement of Osun State from LAUTECH was almost a done deal.
Explaining the rationale behind their declaration of lecture-free period, the students stated that the decision arose from the assurance they got at an earlier meeting from Governor Aregbesola that the problems facing their school would come to an end once a change of government was put in place in Oyo State.
“By this assurance, we are sceptical about the lectures in Ogbomoso, which have even always been with a lot of haphazardness, inconvenience, stress and confusion in all ramifications”, the students explained further.
They concluded that it was in realisation of these challenges that they decided to proceed on the lecture-free period so as to hear from the two owner governors on the status of LAUTECH.
