Communication Technology Minister, Johnson Seeks to Empower Women with ICT












In its bid to fast track the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda, the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology says it would exploring areas in which it can use Information Communication Technology (ICT) to empower Nigerians especially the youths and women.
The Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson made this known on Tuesday in Abuja when the African Women Leaders Think-Tank paid her a courtesy call, a statement issued by the Ministry’s Press Unit said.
According to the Minister, the President Goodluck Jonathan Administration was committed to supporting Women in Leadership.
The Minister stated that the present Administration encourages online business and urged the association to go online for easy access to women to educate, create wealth and empower them in the scheme of things.
Mrs. Johnson therefore called for a close collaboration between her office and Leadership and Mentorship Centre for African Women (LAMCAW).
Earlier, the leader of the group, Dr. Oluremi Aribisala congratulated the Minister on her appointment informing her that they were in Abuja to seek areas of partnership with the Ministry.
Other areas of cooperation being sought include the 2012-2016 training for-Hosting of AWLTT’s forum on ICT and leadership competencies of African indigenous women in March 2012 in Abuja, the launching of the upgraded AWLTT’s web site demonstrating its functionalities and user friendliness and online monitoring and Training of the first group of almost 200 female indigenous leaders in ICT and leadership competencies, ICT and local governance and leadership and online networking tools.
