Jonathan commends Airtel’s decision to recall 3,000 sacked workers

President GoodluckJonathan on Wednesday commended the decision of AirtelNigeria to recall more than 3,000 sacked workers.
The commendation is contained in the president’s Facebook post on the ongoing Airtellabour crisis.
More than 3,000 Airtelcall centre workers were allegedly sacked recently by its business partners, SpancoChannel BPOand Tech MahindraNigeria.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) protested the sack and shut Airtel’sswitch in Abujalast week Wednesday resulting in disruption of the mobile phone services.
The president re-affirmed the commitment of the administration to creating new jobs and securing old ones no matter how small they might  seem to Nigerians.
``You elected me and I work for you and took note of your complaints over the workers affected by the Airtel’ssaga and I mandated the Minister of Labour to ensure justice is done.
``The efforts have borne fruits and the workers are to be recalled.
 ``It is my desire to create new jobs and keep old ones in Nigeria, and no job is too small for the federal government.’’
Jonathan added that it was in this regard that the Youth Enterprise With Innovation in Nigeria (YouWin) initiative was launched on Tuesday in Abuja.
Chief EmekaWogu, the Minister of Labour and Productivity had intervened in the Airtel and workers impasse and called a reconciliation meeting.
At the end of the two-day ``intensive meeting`` on Monday, it was agreed that Airtelshould recall the sacked workers before Thursday, Oct. 13.
On its part, NLCagreed to call off the industrial action and ensure that stability returned to the company immediately. (NAN)
